Hi, I’m Lady.

I kind of run things around here.
Would you like to meet my family?

Like I said, I'm Lady. I’m mostly in charge around here. Anyway, I scratched out some family portraits (I can't use a camera because, well...no thumbs) so that you could meet my family and see our bookstore. I work just about every day that my Mommy works. I greet customers (and herd them into the store in the summer), keep the sofa warm and hairy, eat nummies that nice people bring me, visit the surf shop and never bite. Lick - yes, bite - NO!

So, meet my family.

This is Mom (Cynthia). She reads all the time. If she's not reading she's carrying her book under her arm while helping people or shelving. She is almost ALWAYS in the store and you may not make it out alive unless you buy one of her suggested books. She's an enormous word nerd. But I love her because she brings me to work, which is the best place ever, ever.

This is Dad (Charlie). He helps out a lot! He doesn't read as much as all the girls, although he recently finished True Grit in about two days and has been selling every copy he can get into the store. He became a minor celebrity in the publishing and bookselling blogosphere and Twitterverse due to his ability to attract the wackiest customers in my absence, comes in when the E.R. gets too boring.

This is Christina, the oldest of Charlie and Cynthia's daughters. She is also a mega-word nerd. She is married to her High School sweetheart, Michael, in New Jersey, and she is a High School Reading and English teacher. If you're in the store, chances are she'll call - two or three times - just to say "Hi" or ask me to send her a book. During the Summer and the Holidays she is often back in the bookstore helping herself to more books - I mean helping customers. I don't know how we get along without her. Oh, the phone is ringing. It must be Christina! Or maybe Laura.

This Laura, the middle sister, or as we like to call her,
Jan Brady.
She is completing Grad School at Marylhurst University, studying to be an Elementary School teacher and in her spare time
knows EVERYTHING about young adult books and is secretly in love with Dennis Lehane (his writing, I mean).
She also doesn’t come home often enough. Just saying.

This is Kelsey, the baby of the family. She’s a Junior at Hood River Valley High School and she often works in the store in the afternoons and on weekends. She can sell books her MOM has read because she actually pays attention when Mommy talks. She has her following on Tumblr where she waxes poetic about her two favorite subjects; books and Disney (her future home).

Now for the serious “About Us” stuff

Book Stop is a family owned and operated bookstore, established in 2005. We are located in the heart of Historic Downtown Hood River, Oregon. Nestled between Mount Adams in Washington and Mount Hood in Oregon, Hood River is located in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. The
Hood River area is rich with some of Oregon's best restaurants, art galleries unique shopping and, of course, there are at least four coffee shops within walking distance of our store. (We don't serve coffee at Book Stop, but if you'd like to bring us a cup, that's just fine with us.)

At Book Stop, we offer a blend of new and gently used books in a spacious and relaxed atmosphere, including comfortable seating areas where customers can relax while they make their crucial reading decisions. If we don't have what you are looking for, we can usually have it for you in a day or two.

Our Kid's Corner is filled with reasonably priced new
and used children's books and bean bag chairs and cushions where our littlest customers can lounge while reading. We also have a paper covered table, which children are encouraged to decorate with their Crayonian Masterpieces while you browse the shelves.

While you are in the store,
feel free to hang out with Lady,
Book Stop's most
popular employee!
