I usually shy away from books where girls ride on the backs of ugly alien reptiles, but this classic by C.J. Cherryh is more of a sociological exercise involving two groups, clones and "born" humans, abandoned on a desolate planet for hundreds of years. How they adapt is the story here and it is well done. But, I never did like those reptiles.
