The Righteous Men
by Sam Bourne

I waited, with almost breathless anticipation, for the arrival of The Book of Names, excited to read a thriller about the need for the continuous existence of thirty six "righteous people" for the world to continue. Well, it was okay, but apparently THIS was the book I should have been waiting for. Sam Bourne, actually the pen name of a journalist with The Guardian in the UK, writes a fascinating and believable story of a group that wants to kill these righteous men. One would wonder, as I did in The Book of Names, why would ANYONE want to bring about the end of the world as we know it? The answer here is plausible and almost understandable. Soon out in paperback, it's worth the money.

Just when I finish saying I'm DONE with time travel books, someone has to go and write a good one.

The Watchman

Joe Pike is the lead in this one. I miss Elvis. He's there, but not enough and, face it, Joe just can't carry an entire book.

Lightning
by Dean Koontz

This is the first time travel book I ever read (back in the day when I rode by brontosaurus to the library).

Judge & Jury

So-So. Interesting without too much excitement. Like cheescake with no strawberries - still good, but could be so much better.

Nobody does it better. I found this at Powell's. I thought it was long out of print, but, of course, they had it. I gotta say, I love Powell's

Playmates

And they had this one too. Powell's is my bookselling hero!

Atlantis

Atlantis, Shmantlantis. It was just an allegory by Plato. I think I'll spend some time rereading some old favorites. I need the comfort of some old friends.

Soon to be released as a motion picture starring Casey Affleck and directed by Ben Affleck. I have to say, I'm frightened. Although Mystic River is one of only two books I can recall being made into equally good movies (The other being To Kill A Mockingbird), Clint Eastwood is not directing this movie. I almost always hate movies that are adapted from books. Someone let me know how it is.
